Dean Elgar's unbeaten 96 powered South Africa to a seven-wicket win

Elgar powers South Africa to victory

The South African captain finished it off with a boundary off Ashwin to remain unbeaten on 96 as South Africa win by seven wickets to force a decider in Cape Town next week. Elgar's knock helped South Africa register their first win against India at the Wanderers in six attempts and this is also South Africa's highest successful chase at this venue since readmission.

South Africa close in

While Bavuma has carved a couple of cover drives for fours off Bumrah, Siraj is left deflated at the end of the 65th over. Apart from the three fours scored by Elgar in the over, Siraj also concedes fives wides as South Africa move from 211 to 229, within touching distance of the target.

South Africa need 50 to win

Bavuma gets a reprieve as Thakur puts down a catch off his own bowling. Meanwhile, Elgar has been dealing in boundaries as he enters the 70s and helps South Africa to 190/3.

Shami strikes to end 82-run stand

More than 50 runs conceded by India in the first hour of the day's play before a wicket finally falls. Shami finds the outside edge of van der Dussen's bat and Pujara holds on to the ball at first slip. He departs for 40, leaving South Africa at 175/3.

Half-century stand as South Africa close in

Bumrah and Shami have been a bit too straight to Elgar coming from round the wicket, allowing him to rotate the strike. Meanwhile, the ball has been changed a couple of times due to the wetness of the outfield but inconsistent bowling has continued. Shami is struck for a two successive fours by van der Dussen, who flicks and pulls with authority, while the bowler is also guilty of conceding five wides with a desperate bouncer. South Africa move to 161/2, needing 79 more.

Elgar fifty keeps South Africa steady

Ashwin bowls one on the half-volley and Elgar drills it past mid-on to bring up his fifty with a boundary. Runs have come at a good rate for South Africa as they move to 137/2.

Play begins

Bumrah goes past van der Dussen's outside edge with a delivery that seamed away sharply, almost like a very fast leg break. Two leg byes in the same over help South Africa open the account for the day. Ashwin is given the ball from the other end and he bowls one on Elgar's pads and three leg byes come as a result. Elgar gets the first run of the bat as he clips away a Bumrah delivery for a single. Bonus runs for South Africa as Bumrah bowls a short ball that goes above the keeper and results in five wides.

Day 4 start time:Play to begin at 15:45 Local Time (19:15 IST) and 34 overs to be played in the day. Play to go on till 18:00 with the provision to take extra 30 minutes provided the weather stays good.

Update:The covers are completely off and Tea has been taken. Hopefully the weather stays good for the rest of the day and we could probably get play for two and a half hours. Which might be enough to get a result today.
