On Saturday, March 5th DAZN will present a boxing PPV. The event will take place at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California. It will kick off at 8:30 p.m. ET and the main event ring walks are tentatively scheduled for 11:15 p.m. ET. That can change depending on the fights preceding it. The PPV is headlined by a super flyweight contest between Roman Gonzalez and Julio Cesar Martinez that will be for the WBC Diamond and WBA super flyweight titles.
Gonzalez, a former WBA Light Flyweight, WBC Flyweight and WBC Super Flyweight Champion, made his professional debut in 2005. He won the WBA Super Flyweight title and defeated Kal Yafi yesterday. He successfully defended the belt once but then lost to WBC and The Ring Super Flyweight Champion Estrada. It was a rematch of their 2012 fight, which Gonzalez (50-3, 41 KOs) won.
The rematch was the contestant of the best fight of the year, with a record 2,529 punches. The two were supposed to compete in a trilogy, but Estrada had to withdraw.
Martinez made his professional debut in 2015. He lost his first fight but hasn’t lost since, pushing his career record to 18-1 (one unopposed, 14 KOs). His last fight was a non-contest against McWilliams Arrow in November, as Arrow could not continue after a head-on collision.
During the weight-in, Martinez missed the weight, tipping the scale to 114.4 pounds or 1.4 pounds above the 115-pound limit for which he signed. To the boxing scene, Martinez will not be able to weigh more than 15 percent of the contract limit when he weighs in again on Saturday morning, otherwise the fight will be over.
