NFL scouts predict the Super Bowl

How does the Bengals’ maligned offensive line contain a Rams defensive front with all-world defensive tackle Aaron Donald and edge-rusher supreme Von Miller?

“That’s the story of the game: Can (the Bengals) give Joe Burrow time?” Scout 1 opined.

Scout 2 defined this battle as “the biggest mismatch of the game.” Scout 3 concurred and put the onus on the Cincinnati coaching staff to “help protect its own offensive line” through scheme.

“(The Rams) don’t need to (blitz) to get pressure,” Scout 1 said. “You got two Hall of Famers on the D-line (Donald and Miller) rushing the passer and another good player in (Leonard) Floyd. What does that take away from the (Cincinnati) offense? Take their backs out of pass patterns or their tight ends because they’re trying to lend extra help? Yep, that’s the real story.”

Four NFL coaches analyze and predict the Super Bowl outcome

Oddsmakers favor the Los Angeles Rams by four points against the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl 56. Coaches with experience playing one or both teams have their own opinions — including one forecast suggesting a blowout.

“I’m so torn on this game,” an offensive coach said.

“I will tell you what should happen,” a defensive coordinator said.

Four veteran coaches agreed to analyze this Rams-Bengals Super Bowl and pick a winner. Their unfiltered comments appear below.

Super Bowl LVI is set. The Cincinnati Bengals face the Los Angeles Rams at the latter's home building, SoFi Stadium, on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET.

There is no shortage of stars or storylines between these two teams. While the St. Louis Rams won a Super Bowl in 1999, the L.A. version of the franchise is playing in a Super Bowl for the second time in four years and aims to win its first league title since 1951, which is also the city's first NFL championship. The Bengals, who have reignited the city of Cincinnati and won their first playoff game since 1991 this postseason, are playing in the big game for the first time since 1988.

Super Bowl Preview: Rams vs. Bengals, Opening Kickoff Coming at 6:30 p.m.

In roughly six or so hours — barring overtime, an excessively-long halftime show or another epic, ill-timed power outage — either the Los Angeles Rams or the Cincinnati Bengals will be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy as champions of Super Bowl LVI.

A win for the Rams would do wonders for Matt Stafford's legacy, solidify Sean McVay as one of the sport's best coaches and give Aaron Donald a sweet souvenir during his stroll to the Hall of Fame.

A victory for the Bengals, meanwhile, would put Joe Burrow on top of the pro football world far quicker than anyone expected, close out Ja'Marr Chase's sterling rookie campaign in emphatic fashion and hand the city of Cincy its first-ever ring.

The only thing standing between the present and those above outcomes is four quarters of action, the first of which will commence at approximately 6:30 p.m. ET. If you're looking for pregame coverage online, head to this link here.

So, until the ball is teed up and this matchup officially begins, make sure those wings get cooked perfectly, those adult beverages are being chilled appropriately and those healthy snacks are spiked into the trash can where they belong. There's no time for carrot sticks when the Super Bowl is on.

The final showdown of the N.F.L. season arrives Sunday with what fans hope will be a fitting climax to a wild playoffs, with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Rams facing off in the Super Bowl.

The Bengals are in their first Super Bowl in 33 years, led by the rising star quarterback Joe Burrow, who in college won a Heisman Trophy and a national championship with Louisiana State. The Rams have constructed a powerful team through trades and acquisitions, including swapping quarterback Jared Goff for Matthew Stafford in the off-season, and building around the pass rusher Aaron Donald on defense. That aggressive approach to roster building has the Rams playing for a title in SoFi Stadium, their home venue.

Cincinnati Bengals tight end C.J. Uzomah said he would celebrate a Bengals win by bathing in Skyline Chili. “You put it in a swimming pool, and I’ll dive in there and eat my way out,” he said.

For weeks, Bengals fans have been shotgunning cans of the chili to celebrate Cincinnati’s ascent to the Super Bowl. One took a “Skyline shower” as the chili was poured from a crock pot over his head.

The pregame festivities inside SoFi make not-so-subtle nods that it views this Super Bowl and football’s major events (draft, HOF) to be productions on the order of the Oscars or Grammys. We’ve had an in memoriam segment, sideline entertainment reporters, Zedd warming up the crowd with a DJ set and an on-the-street trivia Q&A where fans were asked: “Can you name an N.F.L. player who went on to an acting career?”

The most bonkers aspect of this Super Bowl — and this is not up for debate — is this: Rams safety Eric Weddle, who last month came out of a two-year retirement, will be entrusted Sunday to communicate signals to the rest of the defense.

“I am as good as I’ve ever felt in my playing career for a game, which is insane to think about,” said Weddle, who stayed in shape by playing full-court five-on-five basketball.
