Qatar 2022. A World Cup under suspicion. It does not respect the traditions (it will be in winter), nor the human rights of those who build the stadiums

The bikes and the World Cup were for the summer until FIFA decided to grant the organization of the 2022 tournament to Qatar. The World Cup begins on November 21 and ends on December 18, with just enough time for the finalists to celebrate Christmas at home.
It will be a luxurious World Cup, with air conditioning in the most pompous stadiums that a championship of this type has ever seen. But also a World Cup under suspicion. Suspicions of a fix, for example, which led Michel Platini to jail. The World Cup no longer respects traditions or human rights, judging by the number of complaints related to the construction of stadiums, the conditions in which those who build them work, live and, too often, die.
Qatar 2022. A World Cup under suspicion
The latest figures published in February by "The Guardian" spoke of 6,500 deaths in the works. Most of the workforce is made up of migrants who are forced to work between 16 and 18 hours a day, seven days a week, with temperatures hovering around 50 degrees.
The World Cup forces us to change the calendar, to alter the natural rhythm of football, as if it had not been altered enough in recent years. 2019 was the last normal summer for elite football and for life in general. Football will have to wait at least until 2023 to fully regain its natural rhythm.
On the pitch it will be Luis Enrique's first chance to win a World Cup, which would be the second for Spain. "I hope that 2022 will be a year of success," says the coach in the Christmas message of congratulations. "It is one of the appointments that every footballer expects, in which we have all the hopes to return the joy to the fans," he adds.
Spain has a fondness for different World Cups. After a twelve-year absence, he returned to the 1978 World Cup in Argentina, the first modern-era World Cup played in winter. And in winter it also won the only World Cup in its history, in South Africa 2010. It was also the first World Cup organized in Africa. In the first one that was played in Asia, in Japan and Korea 2002, it was also close, but Al Ghandour was crossed on the way.
Spain seeks to regain the place it occupied in world football between 2008 and 2012. Luis Enrique's team took the first step reaching the semi-finals of the European Championship and the final of the League of Nations. Progression says the next championship should win it. And the next championship is the World Cup.
It is the first for this generation of footballers, but it will also be the last for Messi and, perhaps, for Cristiano Ronaldo. The end of an era. Leo is already classified with Argentina and arrives with the confidence of having won the Copa América, his first title with the Albiceleste. It is the step that remains to try to match Maradona, although Diego's is a passion that goes beyond football. It was a country summed up in a T-shirt with the number '10'.
For Cristiano it could also be the last chance to win a World Cup, although for that he will have to qualify first. The Portuguese runs the risk of having already played his last World Cup in Russia 2018. Portugal has to play the playoffs in which they would meet Italy, who already missed the previous World Cup when they fell in the playoffs with Sweden. One of the two teams, at least, will be left out of the World Cup.
