Info Actu Perpignan: a supporter of Usap made severe sexist remarks against the referee body and in particular the fifth referee, Ms. Doriane Domenjo, this Sunday during the Perpignan-Castres match, on behalf of the 13th day de Top 14. The Catalan club is convened by the disciplinary and regulations commission of the National Rugby League on January 5th.

Sexist insults against the fifth referee

The news broke this Monday afternoon. In its weekly report, the LNR announces the summons to its disciplinary committee of the club of Usap, "following an incident during the USA Perpignan / Castres Olympique meeting", last Sunday at the Aimé-Giral stadium.

According to our information, this incident occurred after the final whistle given by Romain Poite, and the narrow loss recorded by the Sang et Or at home against CO (19-20). Upon returning to the locker room, the entire referee body was the target of a severe bronca from several supporters.

One of them, leaning over the barrier of the Vaquer stand, cursed the fifth referee, Ms. Doriane Domenjo, making sexist remarks against her. She had already officiated as the fifth referee this season in Perpignan, a city where she is from.

Third call-up of the season, what sanction for Usap?

Alerted by these insults, it was the fourth referee who reported the incident to the federal representative, who recorded it in his match report. Usap will be held accountable for the actions of this supporter on Wednesday, January 5. The Catalan club were quick to react by issuing a press release this afternoon:

The club strongly condemns the insults of a spectator towards the actors of the match. For several matches at the Aimé Giral stadium, we have deplored certain behaviors, contrary to the values of respect and friendliness embodied by rugby and the USAP. We condemn these actions which give a bad image of our public and our club, and which have nothing to do in our stadium.

Club press release

Unfortunately for Usap, their defense withers as the season progresses. This is the third time since the start of the 2021-2022 fiscal year that the Perpignan club have been called before the disciplinary committee. The first time, in September, following the use of a smoke bomb by a supporter, inside the stadium, opposite Biarritz.

Usap was then fined 5,000 euros suspended. A reprieve which fell after a second summons, after Perpignan-Clermont and the entry onto the pitch of a fan before the end of the game and after Alan Brazo’s winning try. The club had announced to file a complaint against this supporter.

In all likelihood, Usap could face an even more severe fine following this new summons ... Or even a stadium suspension? At this rate, the sanction of a game behind closed doors could well become a reality one day or another.
