F1, Mercedes asks for the head of Masi and Tombazis? Disappeared from the organization chart after Abu Dhabi. Hamilton is silent.
F1 GRAND PRIX |
Lewis Hamilton hasn't spoken in public for exactly one month. The Briton has been silent since last December 12, or since the controversial Abu Dhabi GP, the last race of the 2021 F1 World Championship. On that occasion the Mercedes driver was firmly in command of the race and was very much on the way to winning the eighth world title career, but the entry of the safety car and the controversial development of that juncture revolutionized the outcome of the Grand Prix: Max Verstappen overtook Lewis Hamilton on the last lap, won the race and won the first World Championship of his career.
The epilogue was clearly not digested by the renamed Black King, who hides behind a deafening silence, and not even by the Silver Arrows, who had in fact filed a complaint about what happened on the Yas Marina circuit (rejected by the race officials). What happened in those moments certainly did not do well for the image of Formula 1, the FIA and Liberty Media are certainly aware of it. Among other things, it should be added that, according to multiple rumors, Mercedes is asking for the head of Michael Masi and Nicholas Tombazis, the race director and the technical manager of the Circus. To do this, one would be "threatening" the top of the pyramid, also talking about the possible stop of Lewis Hamilton.
The team led by team principal Toto Wolff has denied these rumors, but it should absolutely be noted what has happened in the last few hours on the FIA organization chart. At the top is clearly the new President Mohammed Bin Sulayem (elected last month) and at the same time the proper names of Masi and Tombazis, previously present instead, disappeared.
Both have been replaced by Peter Bayer, who remains general secretary for motorsport.
Masi’s absence has made noise and it seems that the race director may no longer be in his post in 2022, but we will clearly know more in the coming weeks. The absence of Tombazis, on the other hand, could be linked to the restructuring of its working group, which will also include personnel from the technical team operating until the end of last year in Liberty media under the guidance of Pat Symonds.
