Rafael Nadal and Garbiñe Muguruza lead the Spanish participation in this first Grand Slam of the season where the Spaniard returns to compete after missing the last editions of Wimbledon and US Open due to injury.
Nadal with Djokovic
Champion of the tournament in 2009 and another four times finalist (2012, 2014, 2017 and 2019), Nadal starts in this edition as the sixth seed. The Spanish number one has been placed at the top of the table led by Novak Djokovic, with whom he would meet in a hypothetical semifinal.
Quarterfinalist last year, Nadal will debut against the American Marcos Giron, and on his way he could meet the Polish Hubert Hurkacz in the round of 16 and the German Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals.
Carreño and Alcaraz against previous players
In the same part of the route there are two other Spanish seeds: Pablo Carreño (19) and Carlos Alcaraz (31), who will debut against players from the previous one.
The man from Gijon will seek to improve the round of 16 reached in 2018 and 2019, while the Murcian will face his second participation after being a quarterfinalist in the last major event of the US Open.
New record for Feliciano López
Feliciano López will continue to increase his record to 78 consecutive Grand Slams against Australian John Millman, while Carlos Taberner will open his first appearance in Melbourne against Russian Aslan Karatsev (18).
Jaume Antoni Munar and Pedro MartÃnez Portero will face German Dominik Koepfer and Argentine Federico Delbonis, respectively, in the first round.
Bautista in the lower part of the frame
The rest of the Spaniards have been left in the lower part of the table led by the Russian Daniil Medvedev, with a Roberto Bautista (15) who will debut against the Italian Stefano Travaglia. The man from Castellón – quarterfinalist in 2019 – was knocked out in the initial round last year.
Pablo Andújar will face Norwegian Casper Ruud (8), Albert Ramos against Argentine Sebastián Báez, Alejandro Davidovich against Australian guest Alex Bolt and Roberto Carballés against Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis.
Women's Preview Earrings
The women's competition has, provisionally, four Spanish tennis players, pending the last round of the preliminary phase in which Aliona Bolsova, Rebeka Masárová and Cristina Bucsa will seek classification.
Garbiñe Muguruza starts as the third favorite in a tournament in which she was a finalist in 2020 and an eighth-finalist last year. The Masters champion will debut against the French Clara Burel in the lower part of the draw led by the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.
Muguruza and Badosa on opposite sides of the frame
Paula Badosa (8) and the rest of the Spaniards have been drawn at the top of the route with world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty. The Catalan would face the local idol in a hypothetical semifinal.
Before that, she will debut against fellow Australian Ajla Tomljanovic, while Sara Sorribes will play against Belgian Kirsten Flipkens and Nuria Párrizas against Tunisian Ons Jabeur (9).
